Board Meeting Minutes
December 5, 2001

CALL TO ORDER/FLAG SALUTE/INTRODUCTIONS

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Rob Olson, Board Chair.

Board members in attendance were Rob Olson, Sheri Folsom, Charlie Crabtree, and Mary Mattison.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mark Crabtree, a Grade 3 student from Irene Reither Primary School.

ACCOUNTS PAYABLE

The accounts payable register for the district was approved on a motion by Sheri Folsom that was seconded by Judy Boxx.

EDUCATION TOPIC - Reading Curriculum

Lynne Jermunson, Principal at IRPS, presented a report on implementation of the Open Court reading program in grades K-5. The report included a review of recent committee activities to address concerns or questions raised by teachers implementing the program. It was noted that this reading program was adopted by the board for use in all classrooms K-5. Although teachers may supplement the adopted program through use of additional resources, they are not to supplant the adopted program. Assessment data to show student progress in the program will be gathered and presented in the spring. Judy Hossner, Principal at MMS, reported on activities of the Reading Curriculum Committee that is working toward the eventual development of a curriculum outline and the adoption of instructional materials for reading classes at the middle school level. The goal is to prepare the frameworks and present recommendations for materials in the spring. The adopted program would then be implemented the following school year.
