Suicide and Suicide Ideation
Confidentiality is not applicable when a student threatens himself or others. Protect yourself and the student body by reporting any potentially harmful behaviors of which you become aware.
  1. In case of suicide ideation (notes, threats, conversations, drawings, writings, etc.):
    • Ensure the short-term physical safety of the student or students involved.
    • Inform the building principal and school counselors who will inform guardians and police.
    • After interventions have been made, continue to monitor the student until its clear that positive adjustments have been made.
  2. In case of a suicide attempt:
    • Treat this as a medical and/or psychological emergency.
    • Contact 911.
    • Assign a staff member to remain with the student at all times. Do not leave student alone.
    • Clear area to minimize chaos and provide working room.
    • Notify administration and counseling staff immediately.
