A Safety Message from the Meridian School District

Dear Families,

I want to take this opportunity to remind our families about some safety precautions.

As you may be hearing about in the news, over the last couple of weeks there have been students approached by strangers in Bellingham and Ferndale.

In all cases, the children did the right thing by telling someone, and parents reported the incidents to police. No one has been arrested, but police are investigating and districts are getting this information to the public.

If you have any information that will help police in their investigation, please call 911.

In addition, please review some general safety reminders with your children:
• Tell an adult immediately if they see someone or something that makes them worry or feel uncomfortable.
• Stay with friends. Don’t travel alone.
• Always stay in well-lit, well-supervised areas.

Although these incidents did not happen in our school district, we felt it was important to let you know about them from us. We have shared this information with our staff. Please know that we take the safety of our children very seriously and appreciate your support.

If you have any questions please contact the principal at your student's school.

Meridian School District Receives Another Clean Audit

The Washington State Auditors Office recently completed their annual audit of the Meridian School District.  As the school district is a public entity, it falls under the compliance scrutiny of the state auditors.

I am pleased to report that the Meridian School District had no findings or issues as a result of the audit.  In other words, we received an "A" on our report card in terms of financial reporting and compliance with federal laws and regulations.

Meridian School District has a long track record of receiving "clean" audits.  This is ano
