Dear Parents and Guardians.DearMeridian Middle SchoolStudents and Families,
I hope that you have an opportunity to take advantage of the beautiful weather and some relaxing moments this summer. And, as the summer draws to a close we here at Meridian Middle School will be excitedly preparing for another academic year. The first few days of a new school year are an exciting time for students and staff. It is a new beginning, a fresh start, and a chance to make new friends and enjoy the challenges of learning and growing. We truly believe that we have a wonderful school with a caring staff, awesome students, and involved parents.
The purpose of this letter is to bring you up-to-date regarding post school activities. Please note the following important dates on your calendar as they pertain to your family.
On Monday, August 21st we will be hosting the 7th and 8th presale and sport registration night. This activity will begin at 5 PM and run through 7 PM. Teachers will not be available to meet students during this evening event, but students will be able to pick up their schedules, pay athletic and school fees. Students may deposit money for breakfast and lunch accounts and purchase ASB memberships ($20.00), and annuals ($30.00). Students who have all of their required paperwork completed in order to turn out for falls sports may submit it at this time as well. It is not necessary to attend this presale event if your child is not participating in a fall sport.
The middle school and classrooms will be open to 6th graders and their parents on Tuesday, August 26th to tour their classrooms, purchase ASB cards and make deposits into their lunch accounts. A formal Open House has been scheduled for all middle school students, parents and staff for Wednesday, September 10th from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. at the middle school.
The Washington State Immunization Law requires that all students must have current vaccinations in order to attend school. Students will be excluded from school if they are not immunized. Parents, if your child has not been immunized, please make an appointment as soon as possible so that your child will not be excluded from school. You may turn in all up dated immunization records into the office.
The first day of school is Tuesday, September 2nd. Please make sure that you come to school prepared with all of the supplies that you will need.
School hours are from 8:05 AM to 2:45 PM. For the safety and security of your children, I would ask that students not arrive to school prior to 7:50 AM. The building will be locked until 7:50 AM. We also ask that parents and visitors check and sign in at the office prior to initiating any contact with students. Students staying after school must prearrange for their own transportation and supervision. It is the responsibility of each middle school student to be under the direct supervision of a staff member whenever remaining after school.
The first day that fall sports teams may practice is Tuesday, September 2nd. Fall sport teams will be boys’ football and soccer, girls’ fastpitch, and boys’ and girls’ cross-country. Activity buses will be provided for student athletes and students involved in after school activities. Buses will leave the middle school at approximately 4:30 PM. Make certain that your child has his/her physical form completed, a signed insurance wavier, parent permission form, ASB Membership, and a signed co-curricular activities agreement turned into the office. Students who do not have all of their paperwork turned into the office by 3:00 PM on August 29th will not be allowed to participate in, or stay for practices. To offset extra curricular costs students who plan to be involved in sports will pay a participation fee of $40.00 this year.
Individual student picture day is very early this year and has been scheduled for Wednesday, September 3rd. Picture packets will be available in the middle school office after August 18th. Packets will also be available during the scheduled presales on the evenings of August 21st and 26th as well.
