We have had a very busy and exciting time in kindergarten this month. Everyone is settling in and adjusting to the routines and new teacher…thank you for all of your support.
"Hoppy Helpers" We are learning how to be responsible in room 17. We rotate names every day for new job
assignments. The jobs include a snack helper, door holder, line leader, fountain helper, calendar helper and helper of the day.
Sharing Bag We will begin taking turns bringing home the sharing bag to find 1 item that can fit inside the sharing
bag. Your child will tell the class 3 clues about the item so please practice with your child the night before.
Parent Volunteers We will begin having parents volunteer in our classroom starting October 1st.
Please refer to the volunteer calendar that went home in your child's folder last week. Please let me know if you will not be able to volunteer so I can make other arrangements for our center time.
*Thank you to those parents who helped assemble our pre-decodable books!
This month, we will be doing units on apples, fire safety, pumpkins and spiders.
Math In math, we have been
working on patterning, position words and counting activities. This month we will be learning to write numerals 0-7 and learning their value.
We will begin the month with a unit on Apple Math.
We will learn a song, A-P-P-L-E. We will graph the color of apples that we brought to school. We will act out "The Awful Apple" using gummy worms, apples and positional words: over, under, behind, on top, in front, through and around. We will also conclude our unit by making applesauce…yummy!
Reading In reading, we are learning about books.
We are learning what the title is, title pages, authors, illustrators and table of contents. We are working with rhyming words. We are working on letter identification Aa-Ll. Students are learning to count words in a sentence and to identify where a word stops and starts.
Students have brought home 3 books for their "I Can Read" bags: The Park, Lunch, and School (Open Court Reading). The words they should be practicing include: the, here, is, a, an, I, see. The "I Can Read" bags need to stay at home; please keep it where you and your child enjoy reading together.
Thank you to everyone that has returned the Student Responsibility Contract. We need 100% returned! Remember to read a
minimum of 16 days each month. Part of the time spent should be with your child reading their pre-decodable books.
