                                                                           February 5, 2007

Dear Parents,

Here are the five questions that your child will need to research for the dinosaur report.  This will be an "at home" report and will be not be due until right before Spring Break.  You may use time spent on the report to fill out the weekly reading chart. Please help your child create one page at a time, based on the research question for the week. Also help them to put the new information in their own words, rather than copy from a book. We will be making a class report so the students will have an idea of what is expected of them for their own report.

 1.  What is the name of your chosen dinosaur and what does its name mean?
         Due  02/23

 2.  What does your dinosaur look like?
         Due 03/02

 3.  Where and when did it live?
         Due  03/09

 4.  What are some interesting facts about it?
         Due  03/16

 5.  Why do you think dinosaurs became extinct?
         Due  03/23

6. A title page, table of contents, and resource page.
         Due 03/30

The students may take one question per week and research it at home. They are to hand a completed page each Friday.  The pages will be graded with a +, √, or -. A picture, chart, map, etc. should be included for each topic to make the report more appealing.  When all the pages have been turned in, the students will make a cover for the report. I will call on helpers to bind the reports in book form unless your child has a creative way to do that at home.

After the reports have been handed in, they will be on display in the classroom. Students will sign up to read their reports aloud. The oral reports will be presented after Spring Break. You are welcome to come watch your child.  Posters, magazine articles, models, or anything else that would make each oral report more interesting, is encouraged.  The oral reports will be graded by the +, √, and – system, along with a positive comment by each classmate.

If you have any questions please call, write me a note, or email me at: krhodes@meridian.wednet.edu.

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Rhodes
