During the week of March 10-14, the first, second and third graders of IRPS participated in the American Heart Association's "Jump Rope for Heart".
This event took place during the children's regularly scheduled P.E. period. Jump Rope for Heart is an event conducted nationwide to educate students about the benefits of aerobic exercise, and heart health, while raising funds to support the American Heart Association's fight against heart disease and stroke. Most people do not realize that risks for later heart disease are often set in childhood, with early changes visible even in children as young as 3 to 4 years old. These changes can be halted or even reversed by living "heart healthy" - eating well, not smoking, and staying physically active.
