O - Over 85 percent of our cases can be managed over the telephone by our staff, reducing the trauma and expense of an emergency room visit.

I - Initiative makes a difference. Call the poison center before symptoms start. You are also welcome to call the poison center just to ask a question that may help prevent a poisoning.

S - Suicide and other intentional poisonings comprise more than half of our calls about teenagers.

O - We are always open - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The busiest time of day is between 6 and 10 PM.

N - Pregnant women and nursing moms can call the poison center about safe medication use.
