MERIDIAN SCHOOL LEVY FORUM

With the failure of the Meridian School Levy, important decisions must now be made. You are invited to attend this community meeting where the following issues will be addressed:

 

*      Information on district financial operations and the levy

o       Budget information

o       Comparisons with other school districts

o       Levy information

 

*      Program cuts possible with the loss of levy funding (see the following list of items that currently receive funding from the levy that could be considered for elimination or reduction)

o       Teaching positions to reduce class size and provide elective courses

o       Specialist positions (K-8 Music Instructors, K-5 Technology Instructors, Career Counselor, Information Systems Manager, School Nurse, Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist)

o       School Counselors and Librarians

o       District technology support budget

o       Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment and support staff

o       District budget for textbooks and teaching supplies

o       Custodians

o       Paraeducators and Student Monitors

o       Clerical Staff

o       Principal/Assistant Principal

o       Pupil Transportation

o       Student activity programs (includes all high school and middle school athletic programs, clubs and student activity groups such as Band, Choir, Drama, Honor Society, Knowledge Bowl, Chess Club, Mock Trial/Teen Court, Class Advisors, Key Club, Yearbook, Math Olympiad, Science Olympiad, Odyssey of the Mind, MMS ASB, and Sixth Grade Outdoor Education)

o       Summer Sabbatical Grants for Teacher Development

o       Negotiated Benefits for Employees

 

*      Community input and participation in levy decisions

o       The value and importance of parent and community involvement

o       Opportunities for involvement

o       Time for comments or questions
