Occupational Outlook Handbook: This database is maintained by the US Department of Labor and includes much of the same information about selected careers as the Facts on File Database (above).

The CIA World Fact Book– Includes information on geography, people, government, economy, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues on all of the countries of the world.

National Geographic Map Machine– This site has every kind of map you might need from political to road to climate to topographic.

National Geographic Index: This index contains records describing each National Geographic Society magazine article, book, map, video, cd-rom, and more. Meridian’s library has copies of most issues of National Geographic Magazine published since 1995. Use this index to find the date of the issue you need and then fill out a periodical request slip.

US Census Bureau: Statistics on just about everything in the US.

FirstGov: All kinds of great info on our government. (Check out the “for kids” site too!)

Supreme Court Decisions: Check out the backfiles and latest at the Supreme Court. These have the summarys, opinions, results on separate pages.

Supreme Court Decisions from 1893 to the present. Just click on the year and find it alphabetically. These have the entire text, opinions and results on one page.

The US House of Representatives and The United States Senate: The official webpages for our nation’s lawmakers. Includes contact information and a calendar of legislative events.

Facts on File– Has articles on World News, Issues and Controversies and Today’s Science. Get the latest on the topics of today.

SIRS– Is a collection of searchable databases that have periodical articles about many different topics. It also includes a special Pro-Con collection on controversial social issues.

Whatcom County Libraries: Check to see if they have a book you need or another database you can access – even from home! You can also “check out” e-books! Click on the following link or ask your school librarian for assistance in obtaining a Whatcom County Library Card.
