Rubric for Final Project

Topic Chosen   (25pts)

  • topic sufficiently narrowed (i.e. car airbags, not cars)

Note Cards (50pts)

  • at least 15 cards (remember one key idea per card)
  • note cards all have key idea clearly noted at top of card
  • notes are brief, no sentences, own words
  • referenced to source cards and page numbers if needed

Sources (25 pts - must be on note cards of different color)

  • source cards includes info needed for MLA style (date, author, publisher, city, etc)
  • at least three different kinds of sources
  • sources are numbered

Thesis (25 pts)

  • Thesis is an opinion, belief, or assertion about the topic how your topic impacts history and is related to the theme of "Triumph or Tradgedy".

Working Outline (25 pts)

  • main points are easily identified
  • main points are supported with sufficient (3-5) details
  • reference in outline to note cards (for MLA referencing)
  • has logical sequence

Draft One (50 pts - all drafts word processed, basic 12 pt. font, double spaced)

  • name, date, and project info appear on header of all pages
  • required MLA references are made correctly in body
  • works cited list is drafted and included
  • contains 6-10 well developed, well organized, paragraphs

Revising Draft One (25 pts - revisions are shown by hand or using "Track Changes")

  • organization (logical, sequenced, intro, conclusion, support for main points, transitions used)
  • word choice (active/passive, lively verbs, thesaurus, descriptions)
  • sentence fluency (starts, sentence styles, sentence length)
  • conventions (spell check, grammar check, use of punctuation)
  • contains notes, remarks, and signature by a parent
  • contains notes, remarks, and signature of one student

Draft Two (25 pts - word processed, basic 12 pt. font, double spaced)

  • includes graphic, picture, graph, and/or chart
  • works cited list has been alphabetized and properly formatted
  • self edited in different color
  • edited and signed by a parent

Final Draft (25 pts)

  • All mistakes have been fixed

Presentation of Project (25 pts)

  • Uses outline as basis for presentation
  • Project makes successful use of media
  • Presentation is well rehearsed (not read from paper)
  • Presentation actively engages audience
