During the 1998/99 school year the Meridian Middle School 8th grade science class participated in Jason Project X,
"Rain Forests - a Wet and Wild Adventure". The students completed units of study that focused on rain forest environments, streams, salmon and salmon habitats. They
participated in group debates that required many hours of research and cooperation. Students created group and individual presentations that included web pages and oral discussions. Our study of salmon and the Jason Project have helped to make the students more aware of how humans impact the environment they live in.
As a result of the Jason Project we studied the temperate rain forests of our own Olympic Pennisula - the Hoh Rain Forest. Mr.
Clonts, Mr. Mack, and Mrs. Slentz dreamed of taking a group of students to the Hoh Rain Forest to see the area first hand.
They finally decided it could and should be done... so due to the some great planning by Mr. Clonts, it actually happened! Read about the great field trip we took to the Hoh Rain Forest.
