Project Explanation: This start-of-the-year project will combine geography, travel planning, and a review of Six Trait Writing and will be completed for both Social Studies and Language Arts classes. Students will have to work individually and as part of their team to produce the required elements. Access to various printed resources such as atlases and travel guides will be provided for students, as well as internet and any other resources students can find.
Expectations: Since this is a group project, daily cooperation and a willingness to contribute to the good of the team will be
expected. Every student will need to use class time wisely and work at home on a regular basis to complete their part of the work load.
Individuals and groups are responsible for knowing and adhering to all requirements and deadlines. Projects that do not meet established written or verbal requirements will not be accepted.
Goals for the project:
- To cooperate and work well in a team/group situation.
- To research and then take organized, brief notes from a variety of sources
- To produce various maps and to also create a variety of quality writings each focusing and specific writing traits.
- To understand various geographical relationships through the complex physical and human characteristics of places
and regions.
Procedures
- Decide on and submit your five tour venues (North & South State, two states for different regions, one foreign
country). Be sure to include several alternate destinations.
- Research and take notes (by hand) from various sources to plan your tour.
- Plan and prepare media information on your group including bios and photos for each member, group name and genre, and other publicity materials.
- Make a final two week itinerary with map to satisfy Big Mike's requirements including: travel between destinations, hotels, sightseeing.
- Prepare various documents and maps about the areas you visit detailing geographic information such and natural and
cultural information and items of historical significance.
