Our 8th  Grade science class at Meridian Middle School has explored various topics concerning our environment and the various  ways humans impact that environment. We have utilized a Science Forum Debate format to explore differing points of  view associated with many controversial topics such as  "Global Warming" and "Local Water Supplies". We will be  debating a serious problem affecting the state of Washington, the impact of pollution on natural salmon runs in the Pacific Northwest. Our students will form 4 groups  with varying points of view regarding a proposal submitted to them by their science teacher. Each group will be responsible for researching and developing a presentation supporting their teams position.

GOALS :

  • To help students discover ways human progress affects the  local watershed and the plants and animals that inhabit those environments.
  • To help students discover ways they can help monitor and protect local watersheds and organisms that depend on these  watersheds for their survival.
