SCHOOL HONOR LEVEL
DISCIPLINE SYSTEM
Meridian
Middle School staff, faculty, and administrative team have worked to create a
positive educational experience for each student this coming year. Meridian Middle School promotes an
atmosphere in which students have the freedom to learn. This atmosphere encourages students to “work
toward expected behavioral goals” by providing special recognition and
incentive for positive growth. This Honor
Level System is comprised of four separate
honor
levels.
HONOR
LEVELS:
Honor Level One: In order for
a student to be on Honor Level One, s/he must have a “clean slate” with no
discipline referrals or infractions slips.
This applies to behavior at school or on the bus during the previous
two-week period (14 days). Honor Level
One students are recognized throughout the year with special activities. Students that have maintained Honor Level
One status all year will receive special recognition at the end of the
year. Only students currently
on Honor Level One and who have 10 or fewer demerits are eligible for the special
Honor Level activities and rewards.
Honor Level Two: In order for
a student to be on Honor Level Two, s/he may have no more than two infractions
for detention or other conduct related referrals in the previous two weeks.
Students on Honor Level Two are not denied regular
activities such as assemblies and field trips, but they may not attend
activities specifically designed to reward Honor Level One students.
Honor Level Three: In order for
a student to be on Honor Level Three, s/he will have received 3-4 infractions
for detention or other rule violations within two weeks. Students on Honor Level Three will be
restricted from participation in school assemblies and field trips. Students at Honor Level Three will be
referred to the MMS School Building Team for review of their behavior.
Honor Level Four: Students on
Honor Level Four will have received more than four infractions for detention or
other rule violations within the previous two weeks. Students on Honor Level Four will be restricted from
participation in school activities and sports
Parent notification will
occur at Levels III and IV.
All students begin the
school year as Honor Level One Students.
Students who do not
remain on Honor Level One always have the opportunity to work their way back to
Honor Level One by observing all the school rules and receiving no conduct
related infractions for at least two weeks.
Students on levels lower than Honor Level One are consistently
encouraged to “work their way up” to Honor Level One. Honor Level lists are posted regularly, and incentives are
provided for students to move up from one level to another and to remain on
Honor Level One. Rewards will also be
based on accumulated demerits each quarter.
Students will start each quarter with zero demerits.

MAKE GOOD DECISIONS!
All students need to take responsibility for their own
actions. Do not use the excuse,
“Everybody else did it.” Middle school
is where students make choices and decisions that will affect them through high
school and beyond. Everyone has the
ability to make good decisions and should work to do so.
Our goal as an education
institution is to help each student grow and develop to his or her full
potential. It is the work of students,
parents, teachers and others involved with the education of the students at
Meridian Middle School to help each person become more responsible for his/her
behavior. We want each child to have
the freedom of activity and expression necessary to explore and learn in ways
best suited for him or her as an individual.
At the same time, we understand that each inidvidiual’s freedom stops
abruptly at the point when it infringes on the rights and freedoms of others.
We feel it is grossly unfair and totally intolerable for the
behavior of one student to interfere with the right of others; whether they are
students, teachers, parents, or guests at our school.
We
are deeply concerned about the right of each student to get the best education
possible while a student at Meridian Middle School As a result, we have established some basic general rules to
govern behavior and also some specific rules, which will allow for the most
efficient use of the time in our school day for educational purposes. We expect everyone attending Meridian Middle
School to follow these rules.
