Meridian Parent Partnership Program (MP3)

Donna Coleman, Teacher and SLP Consultant

Wanting to teach was a childhood dream of mine, with my sisters and friends indulging me by playing school in our garage at every opportunity.  I attended San Jose State University, earning a teaching certificate and a Master’s in Education in the 70’s.  I taught for five years in Cupertino, CA (Silicon Valley) in Special Education and then went on to be a Program Specialist with a consortium of school districts, followed by serving as a Resource Specialist in the county’s Community School Program, for a total of 11 years.

The next phase of my life involved moving to the beautiful Pacific Northwest!!  My husband, William (a clinical psychologist in private practice), and I have made this our home for 23 years, raising our twin sons, Jared and Ben, and our daughter, Alicia. We chose the Northwest for its beauty, sense of community, and the plentiful outdoor recreational opportunities available (including the “elusive” salmon to hunt for my husband and the abundance of trails to hike for me).   After being a stay-at-home mom for ten years, I returned to teaching 13 years ago.  This time brought me to Meridian School District, where I have served at the Middle School.  Those years were very full and rewarding as I worked with a wonderful staff of dedicated educators. I am now pleased and excited to be a part of the MP3 program and to continue working with the exceptional Meridian District staff and supportive community.

Currently, my husband and I are “empty nesters”.  Our sons are recent graduates of the University of Washington and Seattle Pacific University and are living and working in Seattle, planning for graduate school.  Our daughter is beginning her sophomore year at SPU after a summer as a counselor at Camp Firwood. My husband and I are looking forward to spending more time together, enjoying all we love about the Northwest, visiting family out-of-state, and tackling projects that have been delegated to the bottom of the “to-do list”.
