Dear Meridian Middle School Students and Families,

I hope that you have had an opportunity to take advantage of the beautiful weather and some relaxing moments this summer.  And, as the summer draws to a close we here at Meridian Middle School will be excitedly preparing for another academic year.  The first few days of a new school year are an exciting time for students and staff.  It is a new beginning, a fresh start, and a chance to make new friends and enjoy the challenges of learning and growing.  We truly believe that we have a wonderful school with a caring staff, awesome students, and involved parents.

The purpose of this letter is to bring you up-to-date regarding post school activities. Please note the following important dates on your calendar as they pertain to your family.

7th and 8th grade sport registration and ASB fee presale night will be held at the Meridian High School at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, August 16th. Teachers will not be available to meet students during this evening event, but students will be able to pick up their schedules, pay athletic and school fees.  Students may deposit money for breakfast and lunch accounts and purchase ASB memberships ($20.00) and yearbooks ($30.00).

The middle school and classrooms will be open to 6th graders and their parents on Monday, August 28th to pick up schedules, purchase ASB cards and make deposits into lunch accounts. A formal Open House has been scheduled for all middle school students, parents and staff for Thursday, September 14th from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the middle school.

Meridian High School will no longer be allowing Meridian Middle School students with an MMS ASB card to enter MHS athletic events for free.  Students will now be required to pay to attend all events beginning this fall. Information on ticket prices for the 2017-2018 will be provided by the Northwest Conference Athletic Directors later this summer. Ticket prices for the 2016-2017 were; $3.00 for students with and ASB card, $5.00 for students without an ASB card.

The Washington State Immunization Law requires that all students must have current vaccinations in order to attend school.   Students will be excluded from school if they are not immunized.  Parents, if your child has not been immunized, please make an appointment as soon as possible so that your child will not be excluded from school.  You may turn in all up dated immunization records into the office.

The first day of school is Wednesday, August 30th.  Please make sure that you come to school prepared with all of the supplies that you will need.

School hours are from 8:05 AM to 2:45 PM.  For the safety and security of your children, I would ask that students not arrive to school prior to 7:50 AM.  The building will be locked until 7:50 AM.  We also ask that parents and visitors check and sign in at the office prior to initiating any contact with students.  Students staying after school must prearrange for their own transportation and supervision.  It is the responsibility of each middle school student to be under the direct supervision of a staff member whenever remaining after school.

The first day of practice for football will be on Monday, August 28th. All other fall sports teams will begin practice on the first day of school, Wednesday, August 30th.  Fall sport teams will be boys’ football and soccer, girls’ fastpitch, and boys’ and girls’ cross-country.   Activity buses will be provided for student athletes and students involved in after school activities.  Buses will leave the middle school at approximately 4:30 PM.  Make certain that your child has his/her physical form completed, a signed insurance wavier, parent permission form, ASB membership, and a signed co-curricular activities agreement submitted.  All forms, except the Physical and Informed Consent forms, are available to fill out online in Skyward, Family Access.  The Physical and Informed Consent forms may be picked up in the middle school office. Students who do not have their paperwork submitted by Wednesday, August 23rd will not be eligible to participate in, or stay for practices.  To offset extra curricular costs students who plan to be involved in sports will pay a participation fee of $40.00 this year.

Individual student picture day is very early this year and has been scheduled for Wednesday, September 6th.  Look for picture information coming home with your students.
