This is a year of fun and joyful learning that builds on your child's natural curiosity.  First grade is critical for developing the foundation for reading, writing, math, science and social studies.  The best thing you can do for your child's future success is to be involved in his/her experiences in school.
Some suggestions to help your child at home are:

  •       Read aloud to your child and discuss what is happening in the story.
  •       Be sure your child reads to you.  Materials at his/her reading level will be sent home weekly.
  •       Math homework will be sent home which will focus on skills and math thinking that is taught in class.

Please be sure to mark your child's reading calendar. The minimum your child should read is 16 days per month. It would be advised to read 21 or more days to ensure that your child will improve his/her reading skills. Practice is essential for your child's success in reading. It is also important to practice the  sight words.
