Research has shown that students perform better on standardized tests and comprehend abstract mathematical concepts if the teacher can provide a direct relationship between the math concept and students everyday life. Students at Meridian Middle School are provided a math curriculum that is integrated into the science class. In this fasion we hope to have students learning in a way they feel is relevant and interesting. We integrate math lesons into many of the science concepts studied in our Earth Science class. When students are learning how to use formulas to solve mathematical equations, we use the science class to introduce formulas such as volume and density in the hope students will be able to visualize the math concept. I feel the math science core concept is great way to motivate students to learn.

I have provided a Tutorial page devoted to helping you improve your basic math skills, take one of the challenges and see how you do. Many of the activities will provide you with a certificate of completion. Be sure to print out the certificate and place it in your math portfolio for extra credit. If you are comfortable with your present skills and would like something a bit more challenging, visit the Problem Solving page and check out these activities.
