Volcanoes and Earthquakes Newspaper  Project

Dear Student,

You and your fellow team members are working  together to produce a newspaper publication designed to inform the community of the potential hazards associated with living at the base of a major volcano, Mount Baker. The potential for a catastrophic eruption of Mt. Baker has been researched and evaluated by numerous geologists and vulcanologists from around the world. Your job will be to inform the community of how devastating an  eruption of a volcano of this size can be.
Your plan is to investigate recent and historical information related to the eruption of volcanoes that are comparable to Mt. Baker. You will also be tasked with researching recent and historical  earthquake activity around the world. Upon completion of your research, your team will put together a 2-page newspaper showcasing your results. It is necessary for you to also develop plans for a survival kit and a list of resources members of the community can rely on in the event of a major eruption  of Mt. Baker, or a severe earthquake in our region.
In order to satisfy the requirements of the  multi cultural community you live in, it is also required that you explore the  mythology surrounding volcanoes and earthquakes. Look to the Native American  legends and those of the Pacific Islanders to help in your studies. Many of us are familiar with the ancient Greek and Roman myths and therefore this may be a starting point for your project.
The plan, when completed, will provide the local community with much needed information for living in the shadow of the  great volcano.
