A Message from Superintendent James Everett

Dear families, students and staff,

We understand the message shared yesterday evening caused anxiety for some in our community. Our decision to send the message was based on a number of factors but our intention was to assure the safety of our students and staff, while keeping families informed about possible law enforcement presence around Meridian Middle School.

After working closely with the sheriff’s office we felt confident that there was no need for disruption to the school day. We are thankful for the support from the sheriff’s office and know the safety of our students and staff is of utmost importance to them.

I appreciate the staff and families that have reached out to me with their questions and concerns. I also hope staff, families and students know that their safety and wellbeing is always a top priority for us.

I hope you have a wonderful and restful weekend.

James

We have a strong educational team here in Meridian and we want you to be part of it by applying to be a substitute in our district!

Emergency Certified Substitute Teacher

If you are interested in education and would consider subbing as a classroom teacher, but do not have a teaching certificate, you can apply to be an emergency substitute teacher. Interested candidates must have a bachelor’s degree, experience working with children and a willingness to work on an on-call basis. Please contact Julie Dodd in Human Resources to learn more, jdodd@meridian.wednet.edu or 360-318-2152.

Other Substitute Openings

If you’re interested in a flexible position with an opportunity to work with kids, consider applying for a substitute position. We are currently accepting applications for substitute teachers, paraeducators, bus drivers, food service staff, office staff and more. You can view all our open positions on our website.

Hired substitutes must have satisfactory results of a Washington State Patrol/FBI fingerprint background check. As of October 2021, WA State Proclamation 21-14.1 requires all employees working for public and private K–12 schools to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or obtain a religious or medical exemption.

For more information about open positions, visit our website or call District Office at 360-398-7111.

Input Opportunities

Meridian School District Website Survey

Washington State Board of Health Survey

The Washington State Board of Health is inviting parents and caregivers of school-age children to complete a survey to provide input that will be shared with a Technical Advisory Group the Board has convened to assess COVID-19 vaccine for inclusion in chapter 246-105 WAC. The TAG will utilize the 9-criteria framework established by the board to assess and evaluate the COVID-19 vaccine for consideration in chapter 246-105 WAC. The Board is seeking input from parents and caregivers as it relates to Criteria Nine: “The burden of compliance for the vaccine containing this antigen is reasonable for the parent/caregiver.” The survey closes Feb. 2.
