Family School Climate Survey Extended to Feb. 25

Families still have the opportunity to take a survey created by the Center for Educational Effectiveness around school climate and culture. This brief survey will help us continue to improve our schools and your feedback will also be shared with the Strategic Plan Development Committee. This survey is available in multiple languages.

Thank you for sharing your input by Friday, Feb. 25.

February is Black History Month

February is Black History Month and our students are learning about the history and contributions of Black Americans. Here’s just one example from Meridian Parent Partnership Program.

Second and fourth grade students in Sara Warnock’s class learned about African American artist, Alma Thomas. Thomas was the first African American woman to have a solo exhibition in New York and was also the first African American woman to have her work displayed in the White House, chosen by President Barack Obama in 2015. Students learned how to mix primary colors to create secondary and tertiary colors and began their paintings with only the primary colors and white. Thomas’s abstract expressionist paintings inspired their artwork.
