It was so great meeting so many of our families during conferences this week. Our teachers not only shared valuable insight about how students are doing, but also learned more from families about their students and how we can best support them. Those conversations are such an important part of the partnership between home and school, and we’re very grateful for a community that is willing to work together on behalf of our kids.<\/div>\n

Next week, we\u2019ll settle into our regular schedule and launch Targeted Trojan Time, or T3. T3 gives students dedicated time to get extra help, ask questions, get caught up, or extend their learning. It\u2019s another support we\u2019ve built into our school day to make sure students have opportunities to get what they need to be successful.<\/div>\n

Hello Trojans!<\/div>\n

Not going to lie\u2026 starting the school year with a full five-day week was exhausting! But it was also incredibly rewarding.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
This year, we decided to start school a little differently. Rather than jumping straight into a full schedule on day one, we intentionally made the first two days about connection.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Students rotated through a variety of activities, including a club fair, class photos, treats and games, and presentations about what it means to be a Meridian Trojan. We also had breakout sessions where our teachers got to share some of their passions and interests outside of their regular classrooms. Students learned things like how to fix up a Harley, made friendship bracelets, and explored all sorts of other activities.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
We did find some time for actual classes, too. But the first couple of days were really about getting to know each other, building relationships, having some fun, and reminding ourselves that school is about more than what happens in a classroom.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
It was also pretty cool to watch students settle into the rhythm of school on Wednesday and hit the ground running. By the middle of the week, it already felt like we were back in our groove.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
It\u2019s good to be back.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
And while I am incredibly grateful for the energy our students and staff brought to this first week, I\u2019m also pretty happy that everyone gets a three-day weekend to recover!<\/div>\n

Meridian High School Conferences Sept. 8-10<\/h2>\n

Meridian High School will have school conferences Sept. 8-10. On these days, Meridian High School will dismiss early at 12:10 p.m.<\/div>\n

On Tuesday, Sept. 8 all families are invited to our conference open house from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Families will have the opportunity to meet with any of their student\u2019s teachers in their classrooms. The Meridian School District partners with the Whatcom County Library System to bring public library access to every student.<\/div>\n

For this school year, all students who drive to school will be required to have a window sticker parking pass as well as register their vehicle. The first step in the process is to complete\u00a0this Google Form<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and then Mrs. Gookstetter will provide you the appropriate pass. If you have time before school starts, you can swing in and pick up your pass. Passes will be required starting September 8th.<\/div>\n

The first day of school is almost here! We can\u2019t wait to welcome our students back on Monday.<\/div>\n
Our staff spent much of last week working hard, together, to get ready for a great year. It was a busy and, at times, tiring week, but there is something else that has been impossible to miss: the positive energy is palpable.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Over and over again, I heard staff talking about how lucky we are to work with such amazing kids. There really is something special about Meridian students. I\u2019m not sure we can put our finger on exactly what it is, but I know it has a lot to do with the incredible staff who pour so much into our students every day and the fantastic community that supports our schools.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
So, as we head into a new school year, I simply want to say thank you. Thank you to our staff for the care, energy, and enthusiasm you bring to this work. And thank you to our families and community for trusting us with your students and for continuing to support our schools.<\/div>\n

Alternate Schedule for the First Two Days of School<\/h2>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

To kick-off the start of the school year, we will focus on connection and fun while we welcome our students back with intention.\u00a0Our first two days of school will feature assemblies, one-of-a-kind teacher-led breakout sessions, a club fair, and opportunities to engage with each other in fun and positive ways.\u00a0While the focus of our first two days is not academic, students will meet all 6 of their scheduled classes and teachers on Monday and Tuesday for 20 minutes on each day as a way to build into our school year at an appropriate pace.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

StudentSquare helps us improve communication with our students. Important information about school activities, events and athletics is shared through StudentSquare. All posts sent through StudentSquare will be supervised by an advisor and can be monitored at any time by an administrator.<\/div>\n

Please keep in mind that our master schedule is built each spring based on graduation requirements, staffing, and student course requests, and many classes are already at or near capacity. Because of this, schedule changes are limited and cannot be guaranteed.<\/div>\n

Requests will be considered for specific scheduling needs, including elective-for-elective changes within the same period, incorrect course placement, previously completed courses, or missing courses.<\/div>\n

Meridian High School Conferences Sept. 8-10<\/h2>\n

Meridian High School will have school conferences Sept. 8-10. On these days, Meridian High School will dismiss early at 12:10 p.m.<\/div>\n

On Tuesday, Sept. 8 all families are invited to our conference open house from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Families will have the opportunity to meet with any of their student\u2019s teachers in their classrooms. For this school year, all students who drive to school will be required to have a window sticker parking pass as well as register their vehicle. The first step in the process is to complete\u00a0this Google Form<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and then Mrs. Gookstetter will provide you the appropriate pass. If you have time before school starts, you can swing in and pick up your pass. Passes will be required starting September 8th.<\/div>\n

Being present in class is vital to be successful in school. We want to encourage all of our students to be at school every day! If you are missing school, you are missing out on learning!<\/div>\n

Picking Up Your Student Early From School?<\/h2>\n

If you need to pick up your student early from school, please contact the office at 360-398-8111. We would be happy to get your student for you. If possible, please try to call at least 30 minutes in advance. We understand that emergencies happen and a last minute pick up may be needed, but it is great to have the extra time to make sure your student is ready when you arrive.<\/div>\n
