Students in 9th, 10th and 11th grade will dismiss early at 12:10 p.m. Seniors will stay to complete their senior presentations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>State Assessments\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA) for 9th and 10th grade students begins on Tuesday, April 28. Here\u2019s what you need to know:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>For 9th and 10th Graders:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Testing runs from 7:55 to 9:55 a.m. each day (April 28, 29, 30 and May 5, 6, 7)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students should arrive at school at the normal time.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bring a fully charged Chromebook, charger, wired headphones (a limited number are available if needed), a water bottle, and a book for after testing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No electronic devices (phones, smartwatches, fitness bands, etc.) are allowed during testing. These must be turned off and stored in backpacks. Improper access to devices can invalidate test results.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>For 11th and 12th Graders:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">School starts at 9:55 a.m. on testing days.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No bus transportation will be provided for this late arrival time.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your student needs to ride the bus, they should arrive at the normal time and will spend the early part of the day in the commons.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>WCAS Testing for 11th Graders:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On May 6, juniors will arrive at school on time at 7:55 a.m. for WCAS (Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science) testing.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Schedule for All Students After Testing:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The rest of the testing days will follow a modified schedule with all four periods shortened and lunch.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Please help your student be successful by:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ensuring they arrive on time each day.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Encouraging a good night\u2019s sleep and a healthy breakfast.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Why These Tests Matter:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Smarter Balanced results give us valuable insight into your child\u2019s progress, help improve instruction, and highlight areas needing support. For 10th graders, these assessments may also meet a graduation pathway requirement. This is such a powerful opportunity for our seniors to share their stories: reflecting on their time at Meridian, talking about what\u2019s next after graduation, and offering advice to our incoming freshmen.<\/p>\n<p>The afternoon starts with seniors, staff, and community members coming together to share a meal, followed by presentations with those same groups. Afterwards, we&#8217;ll come together for a celebratory dessert!<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s always an incredible experience to hear directly from our students, celebrate their journeys, and recognize just how much they\u2019ve grown. These assessments help us measure student progress.<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA) will be used for English Language Arts (ELA) and math in grades 9 and 10. Grade 9 is an &#8220;interim&#8221; assessment and will not generate a report for families. Grade 10 is the official assessment and will generate a report for families.<\/li>\n<li>Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS) will be used for science in grade 11.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The results from these assessments will provide valuable information for both the school and families. They help us improve instructional practices, gauge student progress and identify areas where additional support may be needed. For grade 10 students, the Smarter Balanced assessments can also serve as a graduation pathway. These assessments help us measure student progress.<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA) will be used for English Language Arts (ELA) and math in grades 9 and 10. Grade 9 is an &#8220;interim&#8221; assessment and will not generate a report for families. Grade 10 is the official assessment and will generate a report for families.<\/li>\n<li>Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS) will be used for science in grade 11.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The results from these assessments will provide valuable information for both the school and families. They help us improve instructional practices, gauge student progress and identify areas where additional support may be needed. For grade 10 students, the Smarter Balanced assessments can also serve as a graduation pathway. It\u2019s always something I look forward to, as I\u2019m incredibly proud to showcase our school and all we have to offer.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Our future students heard from several staff members as well as an outstanding group of current students: Isaac Mendoza, Tucker Siadal, Jaydelyn Hill, Carson Siadal, Gracie Pap, Olivia Rowley, and Hailey MacDonald who shared their experiences, offered thoughtful advice, and truly represented what it means to be part of our school community. Sessions will be held on Monday\/Wednesday and Tuesday\/Thursday from 2:45 to 4:45 p.m. in Room 209. Attendance is required, and students can catch the activity bus home afterward. Join us on March 31st for a campus visit. You must be a 10th or 11th grader to attend. Students will travel to NCTA on the bus with the students that currently attend. The bus departs at 7:00am from the MHS bus loop. Students must provide their own transportation to school that day. Sessions will be held on Monday\/Wednesday and Tuesday\/Thursday from 2:45 to 4:45 p.m. in Room 209. Attendance is required, and students can catch the activity bus home afterward.
