June 8, 2020

Dear MP3 Families,

I hope this letter finds you and your family in good health. Our community has been through a lot over the last few months, however, I wanted to share some celebrations coming up, planning for next year, new family enrollment, library returns and talking about race.

Celebrations:

  •       8th Grade Promotion via zoom on Wednesday, June 10th at 10:00 am. This will be a celebration for the 8th grade students and their families.  We will miss you all and wish you the best in the next chapter in your life!
  •       End of year “goodbye” zoom on Monday, June 15th from 9:00 am-10:00 am. This is an opportunity for students to say goodbye to all of their campus teachers and SLPC by dropping in via zoom during teacher’s “virtual office hours”.  Your SLPC will be sending you an email with a list of zooms to attend during the “virtual office hours”.
  •       Kindergarten Drive-Thru Celebration on Monday, June 15th at 11:15 am. Please remain in your vehicle and circle through the pick-up loop. The MP3 teachers are excited to celebrate our kindergarten students and Mrs. Hays has something to hand-off to each student!
  •       The last day of school is Friday, June 19thThank you for finishing the year strong!  We are looking forward to partnering with your family in the fall.

Library Material Returns: Do you have library returns? If so we have two options for the end of year returns:

  1.   Remote Families- Please email Lori Moore at lmoore@meridian.wednet.edu for more information and to request shipping labels before Monday, June 15th.
  2.   Local Campus Families- Curbside only drop-off on Monday, June 15th from 10:00-11:00 am.
    •   Please have your library returns in a box/bag that can be recycled with your name on each box/bag.
    •   Please stay in your vehicle and pop your trunk if possible
    •   No checkouts from the library at this time/library closed (even the restrooms closed).

Planning for Next Year: Although it is still unclear what the fall will look like for public schools in Washington, the Meridian School District is committed to constructing a plan that ensures the health and safety of all of our students and staff.  Here is the link to Superintendent Everett’s message to the Meridian Community.  We will keep you in the loop as we learn more information from the state.

New Family Enrollment: In the meantime, SLPCs are in the process of approving student learning plans for the 2020-2021 school year and many families across our state are looking at MP3 as a remote learning option.  If you have friends or families interested in enrolling in MP3 please encourage them to call the MP3 office at 360-398-9324 and leave a message so we can contact them or please feel free to share this interest survey MP3 Interest Survey.

Talk about it:  I want to acknowledge this week has been particularly difficult for our community and our nation. As we are awakened to social issues in our country, it is important that we capitalize on the time to talk with our children.  This article, focused on racism, provides some excellent talking points. Also included in Superintendent Everett’s message are resources from Smithsonian for empowering your journey and to inspire conversation.

Thank you for your support, dedication, and patience.  It is greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Michelle Siadal
