Greetings Meridian Families, Students, and Staff:
It’s unbelievable that we are quickly approaching our official last week of school. I want to thank our high school staff for their collective effort to put on a graduation event that celebrated our students this past Wednesday evening. By all accounts, the event went smoothly and the rain stayed away. Thank you all for your cooperation and support. Congratulations to the Class of 2020!
I want to thank several families for sharing their perspectives about three particular topics yesterday. Approximately 30 families joined us for a conversation around some of the topics we are looking at while considering a plan to reopen our schools in the Fall. This was before the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) shared their guidance. We appreciate all of those who took the time to share their perspectives about what to consider when thinking about safety protocols, distance learning and hybrid schedules – as they may relate to
reopening schools at Meridian. This is part of our larger effort to examine all the topics we may need to explore as we develop our plan. It was helpful to hear about what went well this spring, what was a challenge and what we should be thinking about moving forward. Thank you to all who participated.
Just before noon yesterday State Superintendent Chris Reykdal shared OSPI’s guidance document for reopening schools. We knew it was coming this week and have been preparing for it. The document is termed as preliminary guidance as districts will continue to receive updates about specific aspects connected to running a school system. It will take some time for us to examine the guidance and work with our employees, risk management and health department to find the best plan to bring our students and staff back safely. Es increíble que nos acerquemos rápidamente a nuestra última semana oficial de la escuela. Quiero agradecer a nuestro personal de la escuela secundaria por su esfuerzo colectivo para poner un evento de graduación que celebró a nuestros alumnos el miércoles pasado por la noche. Según todos, fue sin problemas y no llovió. Gracias por su cooperación y apoyo. ¡Felicidades a la clase 2020!
Quiero dar las gracias a varias familias por compartir sus perspectivas sobre tres temas en particular ayer. Aproximadamente 30 familias se unieron con nosotros para una conversación sobre algunos de los temas que estamos viendo mientras considerando un plan para reabrir nuestras escuelas en el otoño. Esto fue antes de que la Oficina del Superintendente de Instrucción Pública (OSPI) compartió su orientación. Agradecemos a todos aquellos que se tomaron el tiempo para compartir sus perspectivas sobre qué debemos considerar cuando estamos pensando en protocolos de seguridad, aprendizaje a distancia y horarios híbridos, ya que pueden relacionarse con la reapertura de escuelas en Meridian. Esto es parte de nuestro esfuerzo más grande para examinar todos los temas que necesitaríamos explorar a medida que desarrollamos nuestro plan. Fue útil escuchar lo que salió bien esta primavera, qué fue un desafío, y lo que deberíamos estar pensando en seguir adelante. Gracias a todos los que participaron.
Momentos antes del mediodía de ayer, el Superintendente estatal Chris Reykdal compartió el documento de orientación de OSPI para reabrir las escuelas. Sabíamos que vendría esta semana y nos hemos estado preparando para ello.
