Meridian School District is committed to doing what is best for all our students. There is much that informs our actions and decisions as a board, including the concerns of our community. We understand and sympathize with those who are not wanting their students to wear masks.
As the elected officials of the Meridian School District, we have the authority to make policy, budget, and governance decisions that form the basis of local control within our local education system, so long as they are not in conflict with other laws. We are responsible for the quality of education provided by the district, we are accountable for the financial health of the district, the morale of the employees, and the educational programs and opportunities provided to every student in this district.
While many decisions are made at the local level, board members take an oath to follow the laws and regulations of the State of Washington. To maintain the responsibility that we hold to our district and community to act in a prudent manner regarding safety and financial responsibility, we will follow all state guidelines. We will continue to follow the Department of Health’s K-12 COVID-19 Requirements for the 2021-2022 School Year.
