Every meal served in our schools represents the work of a dedicated team committed to supporting students, and our food service teams play an important role in helping students be ready to learn!
Last week Interim Superintendent Dr. Kurt Harvill joined food services at Meridian High School. After earning his food handler card and suiting up in an apron and gloves, he was ready to serve lunch alongside our awesome food service team, Lori Velthuizen and Lisa Swanson.
Before lunch began, Food and Nutrition Coordinator Erin Groen gave Dr. Harvill a quick lesson on scooping the correct serving of rice for the day’s Mandarin Chicken Rice Bowl. As he worked alongside the team, Dr. Harvill asked what they enjoy most about their jobs. Their answer was unanimous:
“The students.”
And that’s exactly why this work matters.
Our food service staff do so much more than prepare meals. They help ensure students have access to nutritious food that fuels their school day, while building meaningful connections with students along the way.
That’s One Team. One Purpose. Every role matters. Every contribution makes a difference, and at the heart of it all are our students.
