State Assessments
Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA) for 9th and 10th grade students begins on Tuesday, April 28. Here’s what you need to know:
For 9th and 10th Graders:
- Testing runs from 7:55 to 9:55 a.m. each day (April 28, 29, 30 and May 5, 6, 7)
- Students should arrive at school at the normal time.
- Bring a fully charged Chromebook, charger, wired headphones (a limited number are available if needed), a water bottle, and a book for after testing.
- No electronic devices (phones, smartwatches, fitness bands, etc.) are allowed during testing. These must be turned off and stored in backpacks. Improper access to devices can invalidate test results.
For 11th and 12th Graders:
- School starts at 9:55 a.m. on testing days.
- No bus transportation will be provided for this late arrival time.
- If your student needs to ride the bus, they should arrive at the normal time and will spend the early part of the day in the commons.
WCAS Testing for 11th Graders:
- On May 6, juniors will arrive at school on time at 7:55 a.m. for WCAS (Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science) testing.
Schedule for All Students After Testing:
- The rest of the testing days will follow a modified schedule with all four periods shortened and lunch.
Please help your student be successful by:
- Ensuring they arrive on time each day.
- Encouraging a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast.
Why These Tests Matter:
Smarter Balanced results give us valuable insight into your child’s progress, help improve instruction, and highlight areas needing support. For 10th graders, these assessments may also meet a graduation pathway requirement. Results are typically available in Skyward by September.
Thank you for supporting your student during testing week! Please let us know what questions you have.
