What does it mean to be part of the team that helps our students succeed? Sometimes, it means making sure their schools are ready to welcome them each morning.

Our theme this year is “One Team. One Purpose.” In support of this, Interim Superintendent Dr. Kurt Harvill is spending time alongside staff across our district, learning their work, listening to their stories, and experiencing firsthand how every role contributes to the success of our students and schools.

Before school started, he joined the maintenance team and may have had a little too much fun on the riding lawn mower. He also helped trim trees and rake yard debris as the team prepared our grounds for the start of the new school year.

Dr. Harvill asked Johnny Wiley, one of our maintenance team members, what makes the job so rewarding. Johnny shared that he enjoys working with his hands and takes pride in what he has accomplished. He also said he appreciates being surrounded by people who value the work they do.

“There’s something special about returning to the same place each day, seeing familiar smiles and greetings, and knowing that your work makes a difference,” said Johnny.

That’s what One Team is all about. Every role matters and contributes to a place where our students can learn, grow, and thrive.
