A Message from Superintendent Dr. James Everett

I am writing to share some important news regarding a leadership change at Meridian Middle School. After more than 30 years of dedicated service in public education, Principal Todd Torgeson has announced his retirement at the end of this school year.

Mr. Torgeson joined Meridian Middle School in January 2021. Throughout his career as a teacher, coach, athletic director, and principal he has led with kindness and authenticity. Whether greeting students in the hallway or championing school spirit with a smile and a joke, Mr. Torgeson’s positive energy has been a constant source of encouragement and connection. Throughout his career, he remained focused on creating strong and supportive environments where students thrive.

Mr. Torgeson expressed how honored he has felt to serve the Meridian community and we are grateful for his leadership. Please join me in congratulating Mr. Torgeson on his well-earned retirement.

Looking Ahead

With Mr. Torgeson’s retirement, Interim Principal Robert Kratzig will become the next principal of Meridian Middle School.

Mr. Kratzig is already a familiar member of our community and a proud Meridian alum. He joined Meridian Middle School as assistant principal in 2022 and served in that role for two years. This past fall, he moved to Meridian High School as assistant principal before returning this spring to the middle school to serve as interim principal.

Prior to Meridian, Mr. Kratzig was the dean of students at Lynden Middle School and spent eight years teaching at Surprise Lake Middle School in Milton, Washington. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history and social studies, and a master’s degree in teaching from Western Washington University. He also completed his administrator credentials there in 2022.

Mr. Kratzig is known for his strong organizational skills, data-driven decision-making and focus on student success. He is committed to cultivating a school culture where every student feels seen, supported and celebrated. We are confident that under his leadership, Meridian Middle School will continue to thrive.

With Mr. Kratzig stepping into the principal role, we will soon begin the search for a new assistant principal at Meridian High School. This process will include input from staff, students and families. We look forward to sharing more information in the coming weeks.

Please join me in welcoming Mr. Kratzig to his new role and in celebrating Mr. Torgeson’s remarkable career.
