Each year, our teachers prepare for conferences with the goal of building strong partnerships between school and home. This year, our Homeroom teams have chosen specific guiding questions to help shape meaningful conversations about each student’s growth, strengths, and needs. These conferences are designed to support learning at high levels while ensuring every student feels known and connected.

We’re excited to continue our partnership with the Whatcom County Library System (WCLS)!
Through the ConnectED program, your student’s school ID can also serve as a WCLS library card, giving them access to books, eBooks, audiobooks, computers, and online educational resources at no cost.
No action is needed if you would like your student to participate, they will automatically be enrolled. If you do not want your student to participate, please complete and return the opt-out form provided by the school.
This program is separate from any WCLS library card your student may already have.

Meridian Middle School is growing our before-/after-school clubs, and we’d love to partner with parents/guardians and community members. If you have a hobby, skill, or career passion, consider advising a student club this year!
What we’re seeking:
We welcome a wide range of clubs—creative, service, outdoors, language, coding/robotics, chess, journalism, gardening, music, and more.
We already offer Art Club, STEM Club, Multicultural Club, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Advisor basics
- Time: 3:00–4:45 p.m., every two weeks (day of the week is flexible)
- Role: Plan/host meetings, create a welcoming and inclusive space, and coordinate basic logistics with the school
- Requirements: District volunteer application and background check (per MSD policy)

We are so excited to welcome you back to school! September is Attendance Awareness Month and we want to take a moment to recognize the importance of showing up. Each day at school gives students opportunities to learn new skills, make connections and build confidence. The routines and habits established at the beginning of the school year help set the foundation for success throughout the year. If you have questions about regular attendance or need support, we are here to help you. Contact your school office and we can work together as one team to support student success!

Please review the directions and attached maps for where and how drop-off and pick-up happen at MMS. Since our space is tighter than at other schools, we need everyone’s help to keep the process safe, smooth, and efficient.
Morning Drop-Off
- Pull into the yellow zone to wait. Do not drop off students here.
- Use the green zone for quick drop-offs.
- If your student needs extra time, please park in the lot instead of blocking the zones.
- Do not drive in the red zone (bus loop) or drop off along the roadside.
- Students arriving before 7:55 enter through the courtyard gate and wait in the gray “Student Waiting Zone” until doors open at 7:55.
- Students arriving after 7:55 may walk through the waiting area directly to class.

Afternoon Pick-Up
- Park in the green zone; do not use the red zones (bus loop or staff parking).
- School dismisses at 2:45, but parent pick-up students do not leave immediately. At 2:45, they report to the big gym.
- After buses depart (around 2:50), pick-up students come out and walk through the lot to meet their ride. Please be patient with us – especially on the first few days. We will release parent pick-up students as soon as possible.
- Once your student arrives, you may leave. Please drive slowly and watch for pedestrians.

Transportation Changes
All requests must be made before 2:00 pm. If your student already knows their transportation is different for the day (for example, they usually ride the bus but today you’ll be picking them up), you do not need to contact the office.
Bus Change Requests
If your student is riding a different bus (such as going home with a friend), a written request from a parent/guardian or a phone call to the office is required. Requests must be submitted to the main office before 2:00 pm.
Early Dismissals
The best way to ensure your student is ready for an early pick-up is to send a note in the morning. If you call instead, please contact us at least 10 minutes before pick-up time so we can transition your student to the office.
Pick-Up by Someone Other than Parent/Guardian
If someone other than a parent, guardian, or emergency contact will be picking up your student, the office must hear directly from a parent. Please provide the person’s name and relationship to your student.

This summer our school board approved an updated cell phone policy, (Student Use of Personal Electronic Devices 3245). This new policy and procedure helps to bring our policy up-to-date with current practices and technology.
At Meridian Middle School, personal electronic devices must be silenced and out of sight during all instructional times throughout the school day. Permitted use only includes: before and after school, during lunch, during passing time and in class only with staff permission.
A student who has their phone out during instructional time will have the phone held by the teacher for the remainder of the class period. Students who have their phone out a second time in a class will have their phone held by the office for the remainder of the day and parents will be contacted.

Please make sure your student has their supplies ready for the first day of school. If you’re having any trouble getting supplies, please stop by and check in with our school counselor during the Back-to-School Block Party event.

Beginning this school year, the cost of a school lunch will increase by 10 cents, from $3.60 to $3.70. This required increase is necessary for us to meet OSPI (Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction) guidelines and ensure our meal program continues to meet the required standards. We appreciate your understanding and support as we make this adjustment. If you have not already done so, you can apply for free and reduced-price meals through Skyward Family Access or by filling out a paper form available in school offices.

Regular attendance is one of the most important factors in student success. When students are here, they learn more, stay connected socially, and can get the support they need if challenges come up.
Regular attendance is defined as attending 90% of school days or more each year. That equates to missing less than 2 days each month. Over the past few years, Meridian School District has made huge progress in the number of students attending school 90% of the time or more.
Of course, we know illness and other circumstances sometimes make it hard for students to be at school. If you’re ever unsure whether your child is well enough to attend, you’re welcome to reach out to our Health Assistant, Brenda Aamot.
If your student needs to be absent or will arrive late, please contact our Attendance Secretary, Nicole Heinrich, by email or phone at 360-398-2291 so the absence can be excused.
The following are designated as reasons for excused absences or excused tardy arrival to school:
- Illness, health condition, or medical appointment (for physical and mental health reasons)
- Family emergency (death or illness in family)
- Religious or cultural holiday, instruction, or observation
- Court proceedings
- Other as outlined in Board Policy 3122

Just a reminder that Meridian Middle School uses GoGuardian to monitor student use of district-owned devices. Students are expected to use their devices for school-related and school-appropriate uses only. Administrators are able to access history of devices and are alerted of use not consistent with our technology agreement.

The Meridian Family Support Center’s Food Pantry and Clothing Closet serves families and students enrolled in the Meridian School District.
Their regular hours are:
- Monday–Friday: 8:30 AM–4:00 PM
- Wednesdays: Open until 5:00 PM
- Location: Portable 400A on the Irene Reither Elementary campus
At the family resource center, families can:
- Pick up school supplies for students who qualify for free or reduced meals
- Sign up for Operation School Bell (new school clothes for Meridian students)
- Access the clothing closet (gently used adult and kid clothing)
