MMS families,
This afternoon our 6th graders will return from Camp Orkila tired, happy, and more connected than ever! We are thankful to be able to provide them this opportunity each year and for you trusting us to take them on this adventure!
Next week is our second round of SBA testing – this time focusing on Math. While we definitely do not believe that a child’s worth is measured by a test, we do believe that every student is capable of learning at high levels, and this is a way to see just how much they’ve growth this year. Any measure of positivity and encouragement you can create for your student this weekend heading into that final stent would be appreciated!
As always, please reach out if you have any questions.
Go Trojans!

FAMILY GUIDES

These guides give you a look at the key standards and learning targets your child will be working on. Our hope is that this helps you ask more specific questions, celebrate progress along the way, and feel more connected to what’s happening in the classroom.
We know that when families and schools work together, students thrive. The Family Guides are one way we’re continuing to strengthen that partnership and make learning more transparent for everyone.

Dr. Kurt Harvill Invites Community Input

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Kurt Harvill will assume the role of Interim Superintendent for the 2026–27 school year, beginning July 1.
As Dr. Harvill steps into this role, he is eager to listen and learn from Meridian staff, families, students, and community members. We invite you to share your perspective by completing our community feedback survey by May 22. Your input will help us better understand what Meridian is doing well, where there are opportunities for improvement and how we should shape our path forward.
Thank you for your continued partnership.
Mobile Dental Clinic

Free Mobile Dental Clinic for Students

Unity Care will be offering a free mobile dental clinic for middle and high school students on Tuesday, June 2. Services include a visual dental exam, fluoride treatment, and referrals for additional treatment if needed. Registration forms are available in the school office, or families can call the school to have a form sent home with their student (MMS: 360-398-2291 | MHS: 360-398-8111). Please note that Meridian Middle School students who participate will be transported to the high school in a district vehicle with Family Services staff. This is a great opportunity to access no-cost preventive dental care for your student.

Screens & Tweens – A Parent Training

Navigating the digital world with tweens can be challenging, and families often have questions about online safety, social media, and the realities of the online spaces kids are growing up in. Brigid Collins Family Support Center is hosting “Screens & Tweens,” a free prevention training for parents featuring Agent Miller with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, on Wednesday, June 3, from 10:00–11:30 a.m., followed by a Q&A until noon, at the Bellingham Golf & Country Club. Parents will gain practical insight into the digital world tweens are navigating and leave with tools and strategies to help keep their children safer online. This event is free to attend, refreshments will be provided, and registration is available via the QR code on the flyer.

Football

MMS Football Camp

Meridian Middle School coaches will be hosting a Middle School Football Camp on June 4 and 5 from 3:00–4:30 p.m. at Meridian Middle School for current 6th and 7th grade students interested in football. This is a no-contact camp focused on learning the fundamentals of the game, including safe tackling techniques, route running, and other football basics. Students should bring a water bottle, gym shorts, a t-shirt, and athletic shoes (cleats preferred). This is a great opportunity for students to learn more about the program, build skills, and connect with coaches before the fall season. Fall football sign-ups will also be available at camp. Please note that there will not be an activity bus available. Questions can be directed to Coach Hollan at mhollan@meridian.wednet.edu

Attendance Office Notes

Transportation Changes
All requests must be made before 2:00 pm. If your student already knows their transportation is different for the day (for example, they usually ride the bus but today you’ll be picking them up), you do not need to contact the office.
Bus Change Requests
If your student is riding a different bus (such as going home with a friend), a written request from a parent/guardian or a phone call to the office is required. Requests must be submitted to the main office before 2:00 pm.
Early Dismissals
The best way to ensure your student is ready for an early pick-up is to send a note in the morning. If you call instead, please contact us at least 10 minutes before pick-up time so we can transition your student to the office.
Pick-Up by Someone Other than Parent/Guardian
If someone other than a parent, guardian, or emergency contact will be picking up your student, the office must hear directly from a parent. Please provide the person’s name and relationship to your student.
