Meridian High School is proud to announce a special dedication ceremony to celebrate the naming of its varsity field as Bob Ames Field. The event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. at Meridian High School, before the home football game against Forks High School.
Coach Bob Ames, a legendary figure in Meridian athletics, was a longtime teacher and football coach whose leadership, character, and dedication left a lasting impact on the community. Under his guidance, the Meridian Trojans amassed 333 career wins, 25 playoff appearances, 19 league championships, 10 state semifinal appearances, and six trips to the state championship game—winning titles in 1999, 2003 and 2006. Ames retired as the third winningest coach in Washington state history and was honored with inductions into both the Washington State Coaches’ Association Hall of Fame and the Western Washington University Athletics Hall of Fame.
The ceremony will honor Coach Ames’ extraordinary legacy and his role as a mentor to generations of student-athletes. The event will feature a ceremony with speeches from former athletes, coaches and district leadership, and official signage for Bob Ames Field will be unveiled.
“Coach Ames has always brought heart, humor and high standards to everything he does. This dedication is a way for us to say thank you for the decades of memories and mentorship,” said Bryant Michaelson, Director of Activities and Athletics.
The community is invited to attend the dedication and join in celebrating Coach Ames’ lasting contributions.
