IRE Families,
We have a tremendous opportunity to bring valuable resources to our school community through a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant, in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County. This grant would support after-school and summer programs that benefit both students and families.
To strengthen our application, we need your help! Please take a moment to complete a short, anonymous survey. The more responses we receive, the better our chances of securing this funding. If you’re curious, more details are included below.
Also, mark your calendars—Field Day is coming up on June 10th! We’re excited to welcome volunteers and families to join in the fun and celebration with our students.
Thank you for supporting our school community!
Best,
Tyler Dockins

Meridian School District is partnering with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County to apply for a 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) grant. This grant would provide funding to support after-school and summer programs for our students.
The community learning center would provide a safe, supportive space outside of school hours where students can engage in academic support, healthy lifestyle activities and personal enrichment activities that build on their regular school day. It would also offer educational and personal development opportunities for participating students’ families.
As part of the grant application process, we are asking families to complete a short anonymous survey. The survey includes questions about what types of programs and services would be most beneficial for our students and community. Students in grade 3-8, will also complete an anonymous interest survey next week.
This is a great opportunity to bring additional resources and enrichment to our district, and your input is essential. We appreciate your time and support in completing the survey by Tuesday, May 27.
Notice of Intent to Apply for 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant
In accordance with the application instructions from the U.S. Department of Education, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County hereby submits this Notice of Intent to apply for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program Grant serving Meridian School District.
This grant will provide academic enrichment activities during non-school hours or periods when school is not in session for all qualifying students. The program will also offer students a broad array of additional services, programs, and activities that are designed to complement the regular academic program. The 21st CCLC programs offer families opportunities for active and meaningful engagement in their child’s education, including opportunities for literacy and related educational development.

iPad return day is coming up! For families of Tk through 1st grade, please return your child’s iPad and all accessories (including chargers) to school by June 2nd.
Thank you for helping us wrap up the school year smoothly. We also want to thank families for your feedback on the recent tech survey. Based on your input, we will be moving forward with keeping devices at school for students in the primary grades. For intermediate grades (3rd–5th), we’ll be making an intentional transition with a gradual release of responsibility of taking devices home. More information about that process and instructional support will be shared in the future.
Thank you for your continued partnership!

i-Ready testing will take place over the next few weeks, beginning May 19th and continuing through the end of May. This is a great opportunity to celebrate the growth our students have made this year!
Typically, students will complete Reading on one day and Math on a separate day, with each session lasting about an hour. The i-Ready assessment is adaptive, meaning it adjusts to your child’s level—so all students will encounter some questions they get right and some they get wrong. That’s how we learn more about what they know and what they’re ready to learn next.
Testing dates will vary by classroom and grade level, and your child’s teacher will share more specific information. To help students do their best, please ensure they get a good night’s sleep, come to school with fully charged Chromebooks or iPads, and feel encouraged to give their best effort.
