Principal’s Message
IRE Families,
March is filled with exciting events for our school community! We’re thrilled to invite you to our PTA-sponsored Snuggle Up and Read event, a cozy opportunity to celebrate literacy together, and a visit from The Reptile Lady, bringing an unforgettable hands-on experience with amazing creatures!
We’re also hosting a Math Showcase for TK-2nd grade, where students can proudly share their learning and families can learn more about how to support their student’s math achievement at home. Plus, we’re hosting our district’s Thriving Futures series with Superintendent Dr. James Everett that same evening as a part of the Math Showcase. This is a great chance to dive into our evolving math curriculum and hear about the future of the Meridian School District.
We hope to see you at these fantastic events, see all of the details below!
Please help us continue to improve by completing our annual survey by March 7. Each year, our staff and leadership teams look at this information to plan the upcoming school year.
Best,
Tyler Dockins, Principal
Dropoff & Pickup Reminders
Arrival / Dropoff:
Pull all the way forward in your zone (grades 3-5 to the first crosswalk outside bldg B, TK – 2 all the way to the end of the sidewalk in front of bldg A) to allow for minimal merging and optimal flow.
If you are walking your student(s) in or volunteering for the day, park in the gravel lot for the safest pathway into the building. Leave spots reserved for those with mobility needs open unless you have a relevant and current permit to park in these spots.
Dismissal / Pick-Up:
If arriving before 3:30, park in the gravel lot. Scan in each day to notify your child’s teacher of your arrival.
Context / Pro tip: Our school day concludes at 3:40. We begin the dismissal process early to accommodate a staggered system that allows a safe and smooth exit for 800 students. If driving through, arrive close to 3:40 for the most efficient experience. If arriving early, using the gravel lot to prevent traffic backing up onto Hemmi and potentially Hannegan.
Thank you for your continued commitment to making drop off and pick up as safe and smooth as possible!
Join Us for Irene Reither Elementary’s TK-2nd Math Showcase!
Families, come celebrate our young mathematicians at the Math Showcase on Tuesday, March 11, from 4:00-5:00 PM! This special event highlights the learning and growth of our TK-2nd grade students as they share what they have learned and families can learn how to support further learning at home.
We can’t wait to see you there to support our students and explore the exciting world of math together! 🎉🔢
snuggle up and read

IRE Families, wear your pjs, bring your stuffies and come listen to some fun stories read aloud by members of our community! Students will also get to choose one free book to take home at the end of the night. This is a fun, free event you won’t want to miss! Some of our guest readers include: North Whatcom Fire Rescue Crew ~ Whatcom County Sheriff Tanksley ~ Whatcom County Executive Satpal Sidhu ~ KAFE radio’s Scotty Van Driver and Dave Walker and more!
We want to hear from you!
We are committed to continuously improving our school district and providing the best education for all our students. To do that, we need your feedback!
Please take a few minutes to complete our annual survey. Your insights will help us identify key areas to focus on, ensuring we deliver the highest quality education. This survey is also crucial for tracking our progress towards the goals outlined in Our Commitments, our strategic plan.
We want to hear your thoughts on various topics, including school communication, learning expectations, and your interactions with teachers and administrators. The survey is available in multiple languages.
Please complete the survey by March 7.
March Emergency Drill
In March, IRE students and staff will be practicing a SHELTER Drill. The following is an example of how we explain a SHELTER Drill to our IRE students:
A SHELTER will be called if there is an extreme weather event or a hazardous chemical exposure. An announcement will signal the need to start the SHELTER, and another announcement will signal the end of the SHELTER.
Schools in our county use the Standard Response Protocol from iloveuguys.org.  You can learn more about the protocol here.
The Reptile Lady Thursday, March 27th 6:30pm-7:30 pm
Doors open at 6:15pm. April, the Reptile Lady, is back again for another amazing program featuring her reptile friends. IRE students will get to attend a special assembly during the school day. We invite families to join us for a fun, free evening performance in the IRE gym in building B. Open to all IRE families.
